Deprecated assets and features
This page lists all deprecated assets and features in Matrix 6, including the version in which each item was deprecated and removed. The list includes previously released deprecations and future ones in upcoming version releases.
Deprecation report
The deprecation report is generated as part of a Matrix system upgrade. The report is designed to help you understand the scope of an upgrade on your system and suggest any action needed before the upgrade can begin.
The report includes the following information:

All asset types and features that have been deprecated in any future version of Matrix.

All assets in your Matrix system that are marked as deprecated in an upcoming version of Matrix.

All assets that are configured to use any of the deprecated asset types or features.
After any upgrade pre-conditions are met, the upgrade process safely deprecates these assets in your system. The process uses one of the following approaches to manage the deprecation process for each asset type:

Converting (morphing) of an asset from a deprecated type to another type.

Removing a deprecated asset or feature completely.
There are four types of messages that you might see in a deprecation report:
Asset will be converted
When an asset type is marked for conversion, it is often due to its functionality being merged into another asset type.
A common example of this is the Thumbnail asset. This asset type was essentially identical to the Image asset type. The deprecation script automatically handles converting all Thumbnail asset types to Image asset types.
There are 3 Thumbnail assets:
- Louise Thumbnail (Id: #1012770)
- Pavan thumbnail (Id: #1012774)
- Julia Gong (Id: #1012948)
These assets will be converted to Image assets when upgrading to version 5.5.0.0.

When an asset type is marked for removal, it is usually because the asset type is either not used anymore or not functioning correctly.
A good example of this is the Funnelback Manager asset. This asset was deprecated since version 5.1.0.0 because it did not function correctly with later versions of Matrix. In this case, the deprecation script will completely remove that asset from your system.
There is a Funnelback Manager (Id: #449230).
There is a Funnelback Log Rotation Scheduled Job (Id: #449231).
These assets will be deleted when upgrading to version 5.5.0.0.

When a feature (not an asset type) is marked for removal, no conversion pathway is normally provided for the feature. How the feature is removed from Matrix often depends on how the feature is integrated within Matrix. In most cases, a deprecated feature is removed with a recommended replacement for the feature. If a replacement feature is not available, the feature is removed without a migration path.
This system has the Antiword tool enabled, which performed an extraction on MS Word files up to 2003.
These tools are to be removed from use in version 5.5.0.0.

In some cases, the deprecation report reveals assets configured to use a deprecated asset type within the asset’s configuration settings. Consider the effect of deprecating the Thumbnail asset type described in Asset will be converted. Suppose an Asset builder asset is configured to build Thumbnail assets. The upgrade would result in Thumbnail assets being deprecated as part of the upgrade. In that case, you must manually update all affected Asset builder assets to create Image assets instead.

This is the version in which the asset or feature is marked as deprecated. The feature might still work if it exists in your system, but there are no guarantees. A deprecation notice appears in the interface for any screens and sections relating to this feature.

This is the version in which the code for the asset or feature is removed. For new installs, the asset is not created. For upgrades, the upgrade script either removes the asset or feature or converts it to a different asset to prevent any breaking changes to existing implementations.

This is a special deprecation category which is only used when a "Removed in" asset or feature was reinstated to support customer upgrade efforts.
