Version history UI
The Content page Version history UI can be described as the following:
-
A menu that shows all published versions of the current page since the page was first published.
-
A mode for viewing different versions of the current page.
-
A tool for restoring a page to a previous version of itself.
The Version history UI lets you change the current page by restoring it to a different version.
Excepting for this, when the Version history UI is present, the page being viewed cannot be edited.
Show the Version history UI
The Content page Version history UI presents as a menu. It is presented and hidden using a button in the Actions toolbar.
This button acts as a toggle.
Clicking the Version history button when the Version history menu is not visible causes the menu to present above the Actions toolbar.
Clicking the Version history button when the Version history menu is visible hides the menu and exits the Version history viewing mode.
The Version history button itself also toggles between two visual presentations, depending on whether the Version history UI is present or not.
|
Information is lost if the Version History menu is presented on a page that contains unsaved changes. When the current page contains unsaved changes and the Version History button is clicked an error message presents:
Click the Cancel button to return to the edited page. The unsaved changes are preserved. Click the OK button to present the Version History menu. However, the unsaved changes will be lost. |
List available page versions
To see the versions of the page available for switching between, click the downward-pointing arrowhead character (⌄) to open the Version history menu.
Versions are denoted by date, time, and editor.
Display different page versions
The currently displayed page version is denoted with a checkmark: ✔️.
To display a different page version, select the desired version from the menu.
The Content page will refresh, switching to show the selected version.
|
Displaying different page versions is not the same as restoring a page to a different version. Switching between versions is non-destructive and only changes the displayed view of the page. If the Version history UI is exited without the page being explicitly restored from a different version, the content page will refresh to show the latest version of the page, available for editing. Read Using Version history for details on restoring a page to a different version. |
Hide the Version history UI
To hide the Version history UI, and exit the Version history viewing mode, either
-
click the Version history button in the Action toolbar; or
-
click the Exit button in the Version history menu.
When the Version history UI is exited without restoring to a different page version, the content page refreshes to the latest version of the page and makes the page available for editing.
