Add components, text blocks, and layouts to a content template
When constructing a content template, content is organized and managed through content zones within the Template Builder.
Before adding content items, you must have created and configured content zones.
Read the Configuring content zones in a content template documentation for information about creating and configuring zones.
Adding content items
Add content items to Template-managed zones using the content adder mechanism.
In the Template Builder, this mechanism is symbolized by a purple + icon. This icon presents a menu overlay when clicked.
The available content types that can be added to a zone are:
- Text
-
Used for WYSIWYG text content.
- Component
-
Used for developer-defined content components (for example, Accordion, or Banner).
- Layout
-
Used for developer-defined containers intended for page structure (for example, Two-column, Grid).
If the Layout option is chosen, a list of available layouts is presented, organized into titled sets. Layouts are considered special components that provide structural scaffolding.
When configuring a Layout, the steps typically involve defining aspects such as Column headings and adding content into its configured zones, also by using the purple + icon.
This content configuration process is generally the same as regular content page configuration, except on a smaller scale.
Content nesting within layouts
Once a Layout is placed within a template, the zones it defines (Layout Zones) become available to accept further content elements:
-
Text blocks
-
Components
-
Additional Layouts
Layouts can be nested up to two levels deep.
Content items are added to these Layout Zones by using the content adding icon.
