For major and breaking changes, best practice is often to create a new template rather than drastically altering an existing one.

Personalization and A/B testing

Personalization can be used on template-managed content.

A/B Testing is not supported in templates.

Common template issues

Template not appearing in available templates list
  • Ensure the template is published. That is, ensure the template is live.

  • Check that the template is added to the site’s available templates in the DXP settings section.

    See Adding a template to a site for instructions.

  • Verify user has appropriate permissions, such as those for a Site Builder.

Content not displaying correctly after template application
  • Verify that all required components are still available.

  • Ensure template zones are properly configured.

Cannot edit content in template-managed zones
  • This is expected behavior for locked, template-managed zones.

  • Check if prevent content changes is enabled for the specific component.

  • Use page-managed zones for editable content areas.
