Workplace glossary
The Workplace glossary provides definitions for features and terms used in the context of the Workplace product and ecosystem.
A
Announcement
An announcement is a type of news item whose purpose is to distribute important information about a particular subject to other Workplace users. Unlike a news article, the relevancy of an announcement is typically shorter than that of a news article. Like a news article, an announcement consists of:
-
a News headline,
-
an Image file upload feature,
-
a Summary and Body, as well as
-
various other selectable categories of information (e.g. Article topics and AUDIENCE details) that can be specified for the announcement item.
E
Engagement analytics
Engagement analytics are a set of features in Workplace that provide organisations with a way to:
-
Measure and influence the engagement of their user with Workplace. Workplace system administrators can review reporting dashboard data to gain insights into their users reading habits and using this data, develop targeted content.
-
Identify their most popular news and information (e.g. the number of comments on a director’s announcement).
-
Share usage statistics with stakeholders through in-page analytics and reporting dashboard information, which in turn demonstrate engagement with important topics.
Event
An event is a type of news item whose purpose is to advertise information about a particular event to other Workplace users. An event consists of:
-
the Event name,
-
Start date, Start time, End date and End time,
-
an All day selector, which disables the previous time fields,
-
Repeat and Reminder fields, useful when downloading the event to your personal calendar,
-
an Event location,
-
an Event image file upload feature,
-
an Event summary and Body,
-
an RSVP Details field, as well as
-
various other selectable categories of information (e.g. Article topics and AUDIENCE details) that can be specified for the event item.
N
News article
A news article is a type of news item whose purpose is to provide news about a particular topic to other Workplace users. A news article is synonymous with articles on a news website, or articles in a newspaper or magazine, etc., and consists of:
-
a News headline,
-
an Image file upload feature,
-
a Summary and Body, as well as
-
various other selectable categories of information (e.g. Article topics and AUDIENCE details) that can be specified for the news item.
News item
A news item is a type of asset in Workplace which can be managed by Workplace system administrators. A news item and an article are synonymous terms.
Workplace provides the following types of news items to any logged in Workplace user:
For Workplace system administrators, an event also consists of an additional asset known as a calendar event asset, which is generated automatically when an event is created. |
U
User avatar menu
The user avatar menu is a menu accessible from an icon at the top-right of the Workplace interface that allows you to modify numerous settings associated with your Workplace user account.
Read more about this menu’s functionality in the Modify user settings section of the User Guide.
W
Workplace root user
A Workplace root user is a type of Workplace user who has permission to access all admin mode areas of their Workplace instance.
Workplace server administrator
A Workplace server administrator is a person who administers and configures a Workplace installation and its servers. Workplace server administrators are Squiz staff members who have secure shell (SSH) access to the back-end systems that integrate with a Workplace instance and these people are typically involved with installing a Workplace instance itself.
Do not refer to these people as "Workplace system administrators" as that term has a very different meaning.
Workplace system administrator
A Workplace system administrator is a type of Workplace user who has permission to access almost all admin mode areas of their Workplace instance. Workplace system administrator’s user accounts are located within the System Administrators asset in admin mode.
Unlike a Workplace root user, a Workplace system administrator cannot create a new Workplace system administrator account from scratch and there are some fields within the System Management area of admin mode that a Workplace system administrator cannot access.
Unless the context is obvious, avoid contracting "Workplace system administrator" to "system administrator", since a system administrator relates to a user account type in Matrix.
A Workplace system administrator may be a Squiz employee involved in implementing a Workplace solution for a customer. |
