User role comparison reference

If your DXP Console user account has the Owner role or Admin role attributed, you can choose what user role to apply when you invite others to your Squiz DXP (DXP) organization.

The table maps each DXP user role with the type of general duties each role performs within the DXP.

Role

A content editor creates and manages content, including content discoverability through search.

They use tools created by site builder user roles as part of their daily duties.

A site builder sets up DXP capabilities for their organization and applies additional configuration and customization requirements as they arise.

They use tools created by developer user roles as part of their daily duties.

A developer creates new capabilities using the existing capabilities available in the DXP.

They create tools that content editors and site builders use to perform their duties.

An admin manages the DXP instance for their organization.

Duties

A content editor typically does these tasks within the DXP:

  • Create content

  • Ensure content quality standards are met

  • Ensure content is discoverable

  • Ensure content is accessible

  • Manage content versioning

  • Troubleshoot content problems

  • Influence search result behavior (for example, best bets).

A site builder typically does these tasks within the DXP:

  • Implement capabilities

  • Configure integrations

  • Configure workflows

  • Manage users

  • Manage site configuration.

  • Set up user interfaces using elements provided by developers.

A developer typically does these tasks within the DXP:

  • Build website templates

  • Build customizations

  • Build plug-ins

  • Build integrations

  • Build workflows

  • Customize the editing experience

  • Create and troubleshoot capabilities

  • Create and execute tests.

  • Integrate with third-party apps

An admin typically does these tasks within the DXP:

  • Configure user interface templates provided by developers
